Payment Vouchers for tax credits and child benefit

HMRC stopped paying tax credits and child benefit by cheque from 7 August 2017, according to CPAG’s September tax credits ebulletin.

HMRC will now pay into bank or building society accounts and, only where this is not possible, via an alternative payment method called Payment Voucher.

Claimants will receive a code and unique reference number by letter or text which can then be taken to a Post Office where the claimant will receive their payments. Each Payment Voucher will expire 1 month after date of issue.
