Universal Credit: Autumn Budget changes

The Universal Credit changes in the Autumn Budget on Wed 22 Nov 2017 are mainly to respond to the controversy that has been gathering momentum all year around the fact that most people must wait six weeks before getting paid on a new claim. The changes are:

  • from Jan 2018: advance payments up to 100 per cent of
  • Neil Couling UC Cakeentitlement (previously 50%) – and 12 months to repay
  • from Feb 2018: seven waiting days abolished
  • from April 2018:  two weeks UC housing payment for anyone transferring from Housing Benefit

Also, from April 2018: stays in temporary accommodation (for homeless people) paid through Housing Benefit, not UC.

Oh, and Live service is dead from 31 Dec 2017!

Timetable (subject to Regulations where necessary) announced on 23 Nov 2017 by Director General of Universal Credit Neil Couling  – who got a cake from Hove JCP in Oct.
